As we remember our cultural differences, let us also remember our similarities. One of these is stress. As humans, when we become stressed, the "fight or flight" response kicks in. The adrenaline rush that wreaks havoc with our autonomic nervous system causes a host of annoying symptoms: sweaty palms, pounding heart, "butterflies" in the stomach, skin-tingling sensations, a slight fuzzy headedness or mild disorientation, tightness in various muscles, and other common signs of stress. Unrelieved or prolonged stress can initiate or aggravate various diseases or conditions. In other words, stress is universal to the human condition, and too much of it is not a good thing.

Some causes of stress and the ways people have found to relieve stress may differ across cultures. For example, people in Western cultures tend to be time bound. The clock is a central part of their lives, and punctuality is a desired trait to be cultivated. Lateness, at best, betrays a lack of organization. At worst, the latecomer reveals a lack of consideration for others’ time. A person who shows up late for an appointment is sure to cause stress in those who are left waiting. In some Latin cultures, however, time is no big deal. For example, a ten o’clock appointment in real time may mean anytime before noon. People in these cultures may feel stressed by others who insist that ten o’clock means ten o’clock.

People relieve stress in different ways. Relaxation techniques, meditation, and massage therapies are common to many cultures although their specific practices and methods may differ. Some of the best stress relievers are those that individuals come up with based on a consideration of their preferences and needs. For example, some find relief in a favorite hobby or activity. For some, a workout at the gym relaxes them. For still others, reading is a favorite escape from the day’s cares.

Stress can be the result of poor organization or inadequate preparation. For example, students who put off studying until the night before a test or who put off writing a research paper until the week before it is due are almost certain to experience stress and perhaps even failure, which will result in more stress. Although this kind of stress can be prevented, some stress is natural to certain events and circumstances and must be dealt with as it arises. Following is a list of common stressors that may affect people in many cultures:

What causes stress?

What can I do?

1. Encourage them to get regular check-ups and get treatment for on-going medical problems
2. I’m open for suggestions on this one - all I can do is love and encourage him thru the lows and celebrate with him during the highs!
3. Realize that in all actuality, my house is probably cleaner than most stay-at-home Mom’s, and as long as the kitchen and bathrooms are relatively germ-free - we’re okay!

Coping?
Plain and simple - I pray! I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that since God created me, He knows what’s going on in my life and exactly how I’m feeling. He even promised in His word that He wouldn’t put more on us that we can bear! He is my source of Joy and Peace and I couldn’t make it through a day without Him - God bless!!!

im doing a school project on motivation and stress relief. We have to lead a class of 15 year olds and get them to participate in some sort of fun activities. Please help im desperate i cant find ANYTHING remotely helpful on google. Please nothing weird, i have do get my classmates to do this and i dont want to look like a freak. I need to pass this assignment otherwise i will fail Pe…. PLEASE!!! Help! any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! =)

What is your topic?

Try making a word scramble with words from your theme. Have the kids work in groups of 3 or 4 to unscramble the words. The first team to finish (or first 2 teams) wins candy.
Candy motivates any high school student.

Play basketball. Have the kids go up (1 kid from each row) and ask a question from your presentation. The first kid to write the correct answer on the board gets to take a shot. You can get a hoop from the dollar store, or use a wad of paper and the trash can. If they make the basket they get an extra point (or 2 points) for their team. The winning row gets candy. Tell them up front that there is a prize. They will be motivated.

I also play the flyswatter game. Put a bunch of random answers on the board (or if you need to prepare ahead a large piece of paper that you tack to the board). Divide the class in 2. One from each team goes to the board. Ask a question. The first team to hit the answer gets the point. You have to keep it moving fast. State the rules; NO HITTING each other! Downside; you have to give candy to half the class lol!

I have more, but those are what I think is best. If you don’t like them I can try to think of something else.

My hubby and I have been married for a little over 2 years. We’re in our mid 20’s. In the beginning I gave him oral sex quite a bit, and liked it, but after awhile I started not to like it and just felt like I was doing it because he wanted me to and I wanted to please him. I don’t think that I should do something just because someone else wants me to. I haven’t done it for a few months, and my hubby stopped asking, but last night he wanted it again. He said it releases stress. I don’t know why he couldn’t use a different stress relief technique. He says "well you knew what I liked before we got married." It wouldn’t make sense to divorce over this. I just simply don’t want to perform oral sex, and I feel bad since he wants it so bad( and doesn’t ask often). Should I do it even though I don’t want to? I’m stuck!
You think he would understand but I don’t think he does. He says its a "simple pleasure". I don’t know why he can’t just accept this. Probably because I did it for so long and just stopped "cut him off" as he says.
I did not "lure him in" with sex, I just liked it back then. I think I need to look deeper into this…and see if there’s a reason behind it. In the last few months, I haven’t felt as close to my hubby and we’ve been arguing more (mostly about how to raise our kids). This IS very personal, but I really don’t feel comfortable talking to any of my friends/family about it. Thanks for listening.

I’m sure he does a lot of things for you that he doesn’t want to do, like take out the garbage or clean the gutters, or something like that. I think in a marriage there has to be compromise and it can’t always be about what you want. Though I don’t think anyone should force you into doing something you don’t want to do, but if he’s performing oral sex on you, then I think you should return the favor. Now if he never satisfies you in that way, then really it is about pleasing him and that’s selfish and I would lose interest in it myself. But if he’s making that effort then I think you should too.
If the situation is like that, then you must think, what you want do, another woman happily will so hopefully your husband isn’t weak.

Ok so best start at the start…..
About 6 months ago my boyfriend had a heart attack in our apartment. He spent a week in hospital after it and I visited him every day. I was very stressed and on edge all that week and barely slept or ate, I just wanted to be by his side.
He spent the next 3 weeks at his parents house and I barely saw him. I spent those 3 weeks panicing that he would not want to come home and all kinds of other things ran through my head.
6 months later I still can’t seem to relax. Not a day goes by that I’m not panicky or anxious about something be it his health or our relationship. As far as he is concerned there is nothing wrong and everything is back to normal….he doesn’t like talking about the attack so I don’t like him knowing that I worry so much.
I find myself pushing my friends away by not wanting to spend time with them in case something happens to him when I’m not there. When I’m not busy in work or actually with him then I can’t think straight with the thoughts running through my head. I know I sound like a freak!

I basically just want to know if anyone has any calming/stress relief techniques I can use to try feel "normal" again.
I love him so much and I’m afraid that this constant stress will drive me crazy/ break us up.

dont worry about a thing i know it is hard but ur boyfriend is fine, u cant keep being by his side all the time as he will start to feel bad that ur not keeping in contact with your friends….. why dont u go out with your boyfriend and his friends and your friends to have a laugh .
to keep yourself calm have u tried anything yet….. dont go on tablets for godsake thats the last thing that u want…. try taking up a new hobby such as doing tai chi or swimming ask ur boyfriend if he would like to do that with u to get back into shape again with out the stress of a gym but do not fuss over him if he says he is fine as it will put alot of stress on your relationship. take tomorrow as a fresh day and start by doing the things that u used to do with him but take ur time. good luck with it
